Clara Sverner (b. 1936), a two-time Latin Grammy nominee and acclaimed pianist, trained at the Geneva Conservatory and Mannes College of Music. Renowned for her refined artistry across classical and Brazilian repertoires, she has released landmark albums over decades. Her latest project, 12 Waltzes (out August 1), showcases works from diverse composers and eras, unified by a lyrical, introspective spirit. The album features Sibelius’s Valse Triste, Debussy’s La plus que lente, three Choro Waltzes by Francisco Mignone, Cristovão Bastos’s Morena, Ronaldo Miranda’s Valsa Só, and five Chopin waltzes, highlighting Sverner’s precise technique and cohesive, narrative-driven interpretations.

Clara Sverner, one of Brazil’s most celebrated pianists, trained in São Paulo with José Kliass before earning top honors at the Geneva Conservatory and studying at Mannes College in New York. A prizewinner at the Wilhelm Backhaus Competition, she debuted at 18 performing Khatchaturian with Eleazar de Carvalho. Guided by her mentor Koellreuter, she has built a career defined by artistic freedom, bold invention, and expressive depth. Sverner revived works by Glauco Velásquez and Chiquinha Gonzaga, releasing acclaimed recordings. Her 29+ album discography spans classical and Brazilian music, including award-winning Mozart and Chopin projects, and genre-crossing collaborations with saxophonist Paulo Moura.
