Philip Glass, born in 1937 in Baltimore, studied at the University of Chicago, Juilliard, and Aspen with Darius Milhaud before refining his craft in Europe under Nadia Boulanger and collaborating with Ravi Shankar. Returning to New York in 1967, he founded the Philip Glass Ensemble, pioneering a style often labeled “minimalism,” though he preferred “music with repetitive structures.” His work features elegant, repeating melodic fragments woven into shifting sonic textures. Glass’s prolific output spans over 30 operas, 14 symphonies, 13 concertos, film scores, chamber works, and solo pieces, alongside collaborations with major artists from multiple disciplines. His influence on contemporary music has been profound and far-reaching.

Charles Boguinia (b. 1992) is a composer and pianist with a Master’s in Composition and Music Theory from NYU, where he studied with Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon, and Tae Hong Park. A graduate of the Mannes School of Music under pianist Vladimir Feltsman, he also trained at the Music Academy of the West and Interlochen Arts Academy. As a performer, he champions both classical repertoire and contemporary works, commissioning premieres such as Jules Matton’s harpsichord concerto at Carnegie Hall. Founder of the ÆON Music Ensemble, his compositions have been performed by renowned groups like Kronos Quartet and Sō Percussion at major venues including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
