Alexander Gadjiev’s album Legends explores the mythical and narrative power of music, weaving together works that evoke timeless stories and worlds. Debussy’s La cathédrale engloutie summons the ghostly bells of a submerged cathedral, while Liszt’s Funérailles confronts mortality with stormy intensity. Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition paints a folkloric and cultural panorama, and Prokofiev’s Légende contrasts light and shadow. Scriabin’s Black Mass Sonata delves into a haunting, otherworldly realm, counterbalanced by Franck’s spiritual Prélude, Fugue et Variation and Bach-Siloti’s hymn-like Prelude in B minor. Designed as a mythical journey, the Italian-Slovenian pianist’s program reveals music’s power to transcend reality.
