Clarinettist Marek Švejkar releases a bold debut album, Bach – Berio – Boulez, bridging three contrasting musical worlds through a single instrument. Marking the centenary of Berio and Boulez, the recording presents their complete works for solo clarinet, including Boulez’s technically demanding Dialogue de l’ombre double, which integrates live and pre-recorded performance. Alongside these modernist icons, Švejkar places Bach’s Partita in A minor, highlighting its role as inspiration for Berio’s concept of “polyphonic music for a monophonic instrument.” The album showcases Švejkar’s virtuosity while connecting Baroque mastery with 20th-century innovation.

Marek Švejkar (b. 1995) is a Czech clarinetist of international acclaim, known for performances on leading stages and collaborations with major orchestras and ensembles. He studied in Paris at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse and the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional, as well as in Rome at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and now pursues doctoral research in Ostrava. A frequent soloist with the Czech Philharmonic and other orchestras, he has premiered Boulez’s Domaines in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. His discography includes Connection – Années de pèlerinage (Radioservis) and a Supraphon debut marking Berio and Boulez’s centenary.
