In 1777, Mozart composed flute concertos for Ferdinand Dejean, a wealthy amateur flautist, describing them modestly as “simple, short little concertinos,” though they require both virtuosity and nuance. Soon after, in Paris, he wrote the Concerto for Flute and Harp for an aristocrat and his harpist daughter, both skilled musicians with modern instruments enabling new tonal possibilities. Today, acclaimed flautist Anna Besson, founder of A Nocte Temporis, records these enduring works with her ensemble. She is joined by harpist Clara Izambert for the celebrated concerto, bringing fresh artistry to some of Mozart’s most beloved instrumental compositions.

Anna Besson is a versatile flautist active as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, performing with ensembles such as the Opéra de Paris Orchestra, La Chambre Philharmonique, Le Concert Spirituel, and as a founding member of quartet nevermind and a nocte temporis with Reinoud Van Mechelen. She has appeared at major festivals and venues worldwide, from Salzburg and Utrecht to the Barbican and Melbourne Recital Center. Her acclaimed discography spans Baroque to Romantic repertoire, including Bach, Telemann, and Beethoven, while also exploring Irish flute traditions of the 18th and 19th centuries. A sought-after teacher and jury member, she studied in Paris and Geneva, winning the Cziffra Foundation auditions.
