The Estonian vocal ensemble Vox Clamantis, led by Jaan-Eik Tulve, has become one of the foremost interpreters of Arvo Pärt’s music through a 25-year collaboration with the composer, itself connected to Pärt’s long partnership with producer Manfred Eicher. Their ECM New Series album The Deer’s Cry was praised by BBC Music Magazine as a rare, superbly sung introduction to Pärt’s work. Their latest recording, And I heard a voice, made in Haapsalu Cathedral and released for Pärt’s 90th birthday, reflects the ensemble’s profound rapport with the composer, uniting plainchant traditions with contemporary spiritual expression.

Founded in 1996 by conductor Jaan-Eik Tulve, Vox Clamantis is a twelve-member Estonian vocal ensemble acclaimed for its blend of early polyphony and contemporary music. Their repertoire bridges medieval chant traditions with modern Baltic compositions, and composers such as Arvo Pärt, Helena Tulve, and Erkki-Sven Tüür have dedicated works to them. Their discography includes The Suspended Harp of Babel, The Deer’s Cry, Filia Sion, Arboles Iloran por lluvia, and music by Henrik Ødegaard. Vox Clamantis also contributed to Pärt’s Adam’s Lament recording, which received a Grammy Award in 2014, further cementing their international reputation.
