For the first time the complete Beethoven Nine Symphonies has been recorded and presented in a 6-disc boxed set by a female conductor, Rimma Sushanskaya with the National Symphony Orchestra.

Rimma Sushanskaya, born in St. Petersburg, was the last protégée of legendary violinist David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatoire, winning numerous prizes under his guidance. After emigrating, she quickly gained acclaim in the West, praised by The Washington Post as “one of the greatest violinists alive today.” Transitioning to conducting, she has led orchestras across Europe, Israel, China, and the UK in prestigious venues such as Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, Zurich’s Tonhalle, and Berlin’s Konzerthaus. Her repertoire includes major works by Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Mahler, Mozart, and Orff. A dedicated pedagogue, she teaches at Birmingham Conservatoire and runs the Virtuoso Violin Festival in Stratford-upon-Avon.
