FURY / MERCY brings together soprano Channa Malkin and La Sfera Armoniosa, directed by Mike Fentross, in an intensely expressive journey through Antonio Vivaldi’s vocal and instrumental works. Blending operatic arias, sacred motets, and concerti, the album explores the full range of human emotion, from fiery anger to tender compassion. Beginning with La fida ninfa and moving through the dramatic Juditha Triumphans and the serene In furore iustissimae irae, it also highlights rarer pieces like the Concerto in D Minor “Madrigalesco.” Each selection is performed with sensitivity to Vivaldi’s emotional and spiritual depth.

Dutch soprano Channa Malkin is acclaimed for her expressive artistry and creative versatility, praised by Opera Today for her pure, emotive tone and by La Opinión de Málaga for her technical precision and musical insight. Equally at home in Mozart, Baroque opera, and Sephardic music, she recently debuted as Galatea in Händel’s Acis and Galatea and performed Vivaldi and Händel arias with the Joven Orquesta Barroca Andalucía. Her Live at Concertgebouw EP showcases her exploration of womanhood through music. Malkin has appeared at major venues across Europe, performing diverse repertoire from Bach cantatas to Spanish and Sephardic songs.

Founded in 1992, La Sfera Armoniosa is a Dutch Baroque ensemble directed by Mike Fentross, dedicated to performing 17th- and 18th-century music. Renowned for its vibrant sound and innovative programming, the group performs works by Monteverdi, Händel, and Vivaldi, as well as rediscovered compositions from European archives. Praised by Gramophone for its “enchanting” artistry, the ensemble has revived forgotten operas such as La Rosinda, L’Ipermestra, and Granida. La Sfera Armoniosa has appeared at major festivals and venues including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci, and the Concertgebouw, earning acclaim for its expressive and refined performances.
