Francesco Saverio Geminiani (1687–1762), a pupil of Corelli and Scarlatti, rose to prominence in London as a virtuoso violinist, conductor, and teacher, also spending significant time in Ireland. Renowned for his passionate and expressive playing—earning him the nickname “il furibondo” from Tartini—Geminiani blended Corelli’s structural clarity with his own harmonic daring and dramatic contrasts. His Concerti grossi Opp. 2 and 3 (1732–33) expanded on Corelli’s model, balancing contrapuntal complexity with lyrical elegance and emotional depth. Celebrated in his day and still admired, these works embody the late Baroque ideal of uniting virtuosity, expressiveness, and formal sophistication.
