Soprano Katharina Konradi and pianist Daniel Heide present the third volume of their complete recordings of Liszt’s art songs, focusing exclusively on his French settings—a reflection of Liszt’s rare mastery of both German and French. This album centers on poems by Victor Hugo, forming an “imaginary song cycle” that Liszt himself never created. As Heide explains, the songs often exist in multiple versions, and the duo chose to include several alternatives to highlight Liszt’s evolving musical imagination. The result is a collage-like program that showcases the composer’s deep engagement with French poetry and his expressive, multifaceted approach to song.
Katharina Konradi, born in Bishkek, is the first soprano from Kyrgyzstan to gain international recognition in opera, concert, and Lied. Praised for her crystal-clear tone and expressive range, she performs leading roles such as Sophie, Gilda, Susanna, and Pamina. After moving to Germany at 15, she built a career spanning major opera houses and concert halls, including the Bayerische and Wiener Staatsoper, Wigmore Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. In 2025/26 she sings Pamina in Dresden, Sophie in Japan and Baden-Baden, and appears with top orchestras in works by Bernstein, Bach, Mahler, and Haydn, alongside recital tours across Europe.
Born in Weimar, pianist Daniel Heide is one of the leading vocal accompanists and chamber musicians of his generation. He performs at major venues such as Wigmore Hall, the Konzerthäuser in Vienna and Berlin, and festivals including the Schubertiade and Oxford Lieder Festival. He collaborates with many acclaimed singers, including Andrè Schuen, Christoph Prégardien, and Katharina Konradi, and has partnered with top instrumentalists like Sabine Meyer and Tabea Zimmermann. Founder and artistic director of Der lyrische Salon at Ettersburg Castle, Heide has curated over 100 recitals dedicated to art song. His acclaimed recordings include albums of Schubert, Liszt, and Beethoven.
