This recording by Sir Neville Marriner, one of his last yet to be released digitally, features Stravinsky’s chamber concerto for 15 instruments, Dumbarton Oaks. Neville Marriner (1924–2016) was a celebrated British conductor and violinist, best known for his work with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, an ensemble he founded in 1958. Marriner’s conducting career spanned over six decades, and he gained international acclaim for his interpretations of classical and baroque repertoire. He was particularly admired for his recordings of works by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn. Marriner’s style was marked by clarity, elegance, and attention to detail, and he was known for bringing a fresh, approachable quality to the music.
