Clarinetist Raphaël Sévère and pianist Adam Laloum explore German Romanticism in a program of transcriptions, bringing Schumann, Wagner, and Brahms to life for clarinet and piano. By removing the words, they reveal the music’s poetic depth, expressive nuances, and vibrant tonal colors, offering a fresh and intimate perspective on these beloved lieder.
Born in 1994, French clarinetist Raphaël Sévère achieved early acclaim, winning the Tokyo Competition at twelve and earning a Victoires de la Musique Classique nomination at fifteen. He later won First Prize and eight special prizes at the 2013 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. Sévère has performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including the London Philharmonic, Deutsche Sinfonieorchester, and Korean National Symphony, and at major venues such as the Kennedy Center, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and KKL Lucerne. A dedicated chamber musician, he collaborates with artists like Martha Argerich, Adam Laloum, and the Modigliani Quartet, and is also a composer whose works have been premiered across Europe and Asia.
Born in 1987, French pianist Adam Laloum began studying piano at ten and trained at the Toulouse Conservatoire, CNSM Paris with Michel Béroff, CNSM Lyon with Géry Moutier, and later with Evgeni Koroliov in Hamburg. He won First Prize at the 2009 Clara Haskil Competition and was named ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the 2017 Victoires de la Musique Classique. Laloum performs internationally with leading orchestras and conductors, and his recordings—including works by Brahms, Schumann, and Schubert—have received top honors such as the Diapason d’Or of the Year and Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros. He is also an active chamber musician and co-founder/artistic director of Les Pages Musicales de Lagrasse.
