This recording recreates the vibrant musical world of Joséphine de Beauharnais (1763–1814), Empress of the French and wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. At her beloved Château de Malmaison, Joséphine hosted weekly concerts and daily musical soirées that reflected and influenced the musical fashions of early 19th-century France. The album features chamber transcriptions of operatic excerpts and instrumental works, blending passionate arias with tender romances to evoke the intimate atmosphere of her salon. This project offers listeners a rare glimpse into the refined yet expressive musical culture that surrounded the Empress and her circle.
Coline Dutilleul studied at the Royal Conservatories of Mons and Brussels and at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, and currently works with vocal coach Elene Golgevit. A former member of the Opéra national du Rhin’s Opera Studio, she has participated in major young artist programs such as the Britten Pears Young Talent Program and Lucerne Festival Academy. Dutilleul has performed at leading venues and festivals across Europe and South America with conductors including Leonardo García Alarcón and Barbara Hannigan. Her discography includes Licht in der Nacht (2022) and Les mélodies inconnues de Bizet (2025, Harmonia Mundi/Palazzetto Bru Zane).
Aline Zylberajch, a graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and the New England Conservatory in Boston, began her career as a harpsichordist, performing with ensembles such as La Chapelle Royale, Les Musiciens du Louvre, and Le Parlement de Musique. Her fascination with late 18th-century repertoire led her to explore early pianos and chamber music involving obbligato keyboard parts. Deeply passionate about vocal and instrumental collaborations, she combines performance with a strong commitment to teaching. Formerly a professor in Strasbourg, she now teaches harpsichord pedagogy at the Paris Conservatoire and is a founding member of Clavecin en France. Her acclaimed recordings have earned praise from leading international music journals.
Pernelle Marzorati began violin studies at age five and later discovered early music while studying at the CRR in Tours, focusing on Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoires with period instruments. At 17, she joined the early harp class at CNSMD Lyon, earning her master’s in 2022, while also training on modern harp with Christophe Truant and studying classical and pre-romantic harp in Milan with Mara Galassi. In addition to performing with ensembles such as Le Concert d’Astrée and La Nébuleuse, she arranges music and participates in educational projects, teaching early harp at the CRR in Besançon and promoting historically informed performance.
