Sebastian Breit, principal oboist of the Vienna Philharmonic, showcases the distinctive sound of the Viennese oboe on a new Supreme Music album. Featuring works from the instrument’s “golden era,” the recordings highlight compositions written specifically for the Viennese oboe by Alexander Wunderer, Hans Gal, and Karl Pilss. These rarities reveal the unique tonal qualities that set the Viennese oboe apart and underscore its role in shaping the celebrated sound of the Vienna Philharmonic. Through dedicated interpretation, Breit brings these historical pieces to life, offering listeners a rare glimpse into the instrument’s charm and significance in orchestral music.

Sebastian Breit, born in 1998, is the solo oboist of the Vienna State Opera and a recent member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He began studying the oboe at the age of eight and quickly distinguished himself, winning early prizes and performing with major ensembles such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, and Ensemble Modern under renowned conductors including Blomstedt, Barenboim, Muti, and Dudamel. An accomplished soloist and chamber musician, he has performed widely across Europe, the United States, and Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. With his duo programs, Breit seeks to let the oboe “speak” in its purest, most expressive sense.

Stephanie Timoschek-Gumpinger studied IGP and piano performance in Graz and Vienna with renowned teachers. She has won prizes in competitions like “Gradus ad Parnassum” and received scholarships such as “Martha Debelli” and “Streif.” As a soloist and ensemble pianist, she has performed with the RSO Vienna, the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, and “die reihe,” appearing at festivals and concerts across Europe and Asia. She specializes in contemporary music and released a double CD of Rudolf Hindemith’s complete piano works. Committed to teaching, she mentors young musicians, leads masterclasses in China, and since 2011 serves as Senior Lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
