Mario Pilati (1903-1938) led a brief yet intense and turbulent life marked by exceptional musical talent. Introduced early to music, he quickly distinguished himself as a gifted pianist and composer, choosing music as his vocation by the age of thirteen. Despite paternal opposition, he pursued formal studies and graduated with honors in composition at the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella at just twenty, under Antonio Savasta. Seeking independence, Pilati built his career while facing family conflicts, including resistance to his marriage. This recording features Manuela Custer and Raffaele Cortesi in a rediscovery of Pilati’s refined vocal chamber music.

Italian mezzo-soprano Manuela Custer, born in Novara, made her debut at the Teatro Regio in Turin and has since established an international career in leading concert halls and opera houses worldwide. Her repertoire spans Baroque music, Italian bel canto, and contemporary works. She has collaborated with many of the most eminent conductors of our time, including Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, and Gianandrea Noseda. Custer has built an extensive discography with major labels, featuring complete operas and recital recordings. Her forthcoming engagements include the role of Suzuki in Madama Butterfly in Venice and Macerata.

High Resolution 24-bit / 96 kHz
