Founded in 2019, the Leonkoro Quartet quickly achieved international recognition, winning numerous major awards in 2022, including first prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition and the Bordeaux Competition. Now joining Alpha Classics, the ensemble launches a recording project centered on Vienna’s influence in the early twentieth century. The program brings together Berg’s Suite lyrique, a deeply personal work blending atonality and serial techniques, Schulhoff’s stylistically diverse Five Pieces, and Webern’s Op. 5, an expressionist response to personal loss, illuminating the era’s emotional and musical intensity.

Founded in Berlin in 2019, the Leonkoro Quartet has rapidly established itself as one of the leading string quartets of its generation. Comprising brothers Jonathan and Lukas Schwarz alongside Emiri Kakiuchi and Mayu Konoe, the ensemble combines technical excellence with strong artistic identity. Between 2022 and 2025, it received numerous major international awards, including first prizes at the Wigmore Hall and Bordeaux competitions, as well as recognition from the BBC, Borletti-Buitoni Trust, and Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Trained by Günter Pichler and other eminent mentors, the quartet records for Alpha Classics and performs worldwide.
