Prima Classic presents a complete new recording of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, captured at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli and featuring an internationally acclaimed cast led by Ludovic Tézier, Francesco Meli, Marina Rebeka, and Michele Pertusi, under the direction of Michele Spotti. The opera holds a distinctive place in Verdi’s output, particularly in its revised 1881 version created with Arrigo Boito, which refined the drama, orchestration, and psychological depth. This revision established the work as a cornerstone of Verdi’s late style, exploring themes of power, isolation, and redemption through seamless musical continuity and rich ensemble writing.

Michele Spotti (born 1993) is an Italian conductor trained in violin and orchestral conducting at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, with further studies in Geneva and at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival Academy. He made his operatic debut at age twenty and was notably mentored by Alberto Zedda. Spotti is Musical Director of the Opéra and Philharmonic Orchestra of Marseille and has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin from the 2026/27 season. Highly active internationally, he has led major productions at leading opera houses and festivals and was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
