This live recording of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony marks Vladimir Jurowski’s fifth Mahler release on the LPO Label, captured with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in December 2022. Renowned internationally for his Mahler interpretations, Jurowski continues a distinguished recording legacy with the LPO. Mahler’s final published symphony, written amid personal loss and declining health, is often understood as a poignant farewell. First performed in Vienna in 1912 by Bruno Walter, the work has deep historical ties to the LPO, whose early performances under Walter helped embed Mahler’s music into the Orchestra’s artistic identity.

Vladimir Jurowski (born 1972) is a Russian conductor, the son of conductor Michail Jurowski. Born in Moscow, he moved with his family to Germany in 1990, and completed his music education at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler. Jurowski has held prominent conducting positions, including Principal Conductor of the Russian State Academic Symphony Orchestra (2011–2021) and the London Philharmonic Orchestra (2007–2021). He is currently Chief Conductor of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and Generalmusikdirektor of the Bavarian State Opera.
