Bach’s Goldberg Variations, a cornerstone of the Western musical canon, is reimagined in a new arrangement for oboe, English horn, and bassoon by Caitlin Broms-Jacobs, performed by the Tacamis Trio. Formed within the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the trio brings over a decade of shared musical experience to this project, highlighting the warmth and clarity of the double reed family while preserving Bach’s intricate counterpoint. Conceived during the pandemic, the recording reflects a journey from isolation to collaboration, revealing new colors and expressive possibilities in the work. The Tacamis Trio is a distinctive double reed ensemble comprised of oboist Caitlin Broms-Jacobs, English hornist Tracy Wright, and bassoonist Allen Harrington, all members of the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. Having performed together for over a decade in hundreds of concerts with the MCO and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the trio has developed a remarkable unity of sound and artistic vision. Frequently featured on the MCO’s main concert series, their performances—particularly of Bach’s Goldberg Variations—have earned critical acclaim for their clarity and contrapuntal balance. Renowned for their seamless blend and expressive cohesion, the Tacamis Trio explores repertoire spanning from Renaissance ricercars to contemporary works.
