French-American harpsichordist Lillian Gordis continues her exploration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s works with a new recording for the French label Artalinna, following a critically acclaimed debut album. This deeply personal project is structured around the symbolic presence of the number three and its multiples. It brings together Bach’s Partita No. 6 and English Suite No. 6—considered pinnacle achievements of the French suite genre—with six Preludes and Fugues from Book II of The Well-Tempered Clavier. Through this repertoire, Gordis highlights Bach’s most inventive 18th-century contrapuntal writing, offering an interpretation that is imaginative, poetic, and artistically free-spirited.

Born in 1992 in Berkeley, California, French-American harpsichordist Lillian Gordis began her musical path at age nine and later moved to Paris at sixteen to study under Pierre Hantaï and Bertrand Cuiller. Widely praised as a leading figure of her generation, she performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. Her recordings of Scarlatti and Bach have received major critical acclaim, including a Diapason d’Or. An active performer, recording artist, and educator, Gordis was appointed Eaton Chair of Baroque Music at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2024 and currently resides in Paris.
