Sony Classical releases Chopin Orbit, the second album by New York–based Japanese pianist and composer Hayato Sumino (Cateen). Centered on Frédéric Chopin, the composer who has most deeply influenced him, the album pairs Chopin’s works with Sumino’s own compositions and with pieces by composers inspired by Chopin, including Godowsky, Janáček, and Thomas Adès. Conceived as a dialogue between past and present, the program reflects Chopin’s enduring creative gravity across time. Featuring repertoire ranging from the Polonaise-Fantaisie to contemporary responses, Chopin Orbit highlights Sumino’s distinctive artistry, blending classical refinement, compositional imagination, and a wide palette of keyboard colors.

Hayato Sumino (born 14 July 1995) is a Japanese pianist and composer internationally recognized for his interpretations of Frédéric Chopin. A native of Tokyo, he began piano studies at age three and later pursued an academic path in science and engineering, earning a master’s degree with highest honors from the University of Tokyo in 2020. He has won major prizes in Japan and Europe and gained wide international attention as a semifinalist at the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition. Sumino is also active as a researcher in music technology and as a widely followed YouTuber under the name Cateen, with a global audience exceeding one million subscribers.
