Originelles, by cellist Marion Frère, is a musical journey across centuries and styles, guided by the voices of women composers from Hildegard von Bingen to Marthe Bracquemond, including works by Rita Strohl and Marguerite Canal. Spanning formations from solo cello to sextet, with varied instrumental dialogues along the way, the album explores a wide range of sound worlds. Rather than following a chronological order, the program unfolds as a sonic progression, moving from intimate expression to collective energy. Rich in color and texture, Originelles offers a vivid, synesthetic listening experience and stands as a powerful tribute to the enduring creativity of women composers.
Cellist Marion Frère pursued her studies at the conservatories of Toulon and Lyon, the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, the CNSMD de Paris, and further training in Pinerolo, before completing master’s degrees in cello and chamber music. In 2023, she entered the Artist Diploma program at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Deeply committed to chamber music and creation, she founded the Gabriële Quartet, later evolving into the flexible ensemble Les Gabriëles, and launched interdisciplinary projects under Les Créations Gabriëles. Marion is also active as a soloist, composer, educator, and performer in electroacoustic and film music. She has appeared widely in festivals, collaborated with leading musicians, received support from major foundations, and performs on a Fagnola cello.
