Spiegel im Spiegel presents Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Netherlands Chamber Choir, and soloists Candida Thompson, Martina Batič, Hülya Keser, and Tim Posner in a programme of Baltic and English works that explore the fluid relationship between space and time. Framed by two versions of Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel, the album reflects on the idea of mirroring across eras and styles. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis reimagines Renaissance polyphony through a modern lens, while works by Veljo Tormis, Lepo Sumera, and Pēteris Vasks draw on spiritual, elemental, and landscape-inspired influences from the Baltic tradition.

Candida Thompson is an internationally respected violinist and artistic director, admired for her direct musical communication and adventurous programming. Trained at the Guildhall School of Music in London and the Banff Centre in Canada, and further shaped by collaborations with Isaac Stern, she has developed a career that crosses stylistic, cultural, and historical boundaries. Since 2003 she has served as artistic director of Amsterdam Sinfonietta, leading the ensemble in innovative projects and extensive international touring and recording. Deeply committed to chamber music, contemporary collaboration, and the mentorship of young musicians, Thompson balances respect for classical tradition with an active engagement in new artistic dialogues.
