Guitarist Christophe Dejour presents a compelling program of four significant works whose premieres were long delayed by historical circumstance. Composed for Andrés Segovia, Óscar Esplá’s innovative Tempo di Sonata and Ignace Strasfogel’s expansive Prelude, Elegie and Rondo remained unheard for decades. Alois Hába’s unjustly neglected Guitar Sonata emerges as a work of remarkable originality and musical substance. Antonio José’s Guitar Sonata, suppressed under Franco’s regime and rediscovered only in the late twentieth century, stands out as a major twentieth-century masterpiece. Together, these works form a powerful testament to rediscovered musical heritage.
Born in Copenhagen in 1968, Christophe Dejour studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the École Normale de Musique in Paris with Alberto Ponce. He has premiered works by Danish composers internationally and has been active as a performer, broadcaster, arranger, and concert organiser. In 1997 he founded the internationally acclaimed guitar ensemble Trio Campanella, noted for its groundbreaking guitar transcriptions of Albéniz’s Iberia and Granados’s Goyescas, released on Naxos. Dejour’s solo recording The Art of Classical Guitar Transcription appeared on Naxos in 2020, highlighting his commitment to expanding the guitar repertoire.
