George Enescu (1881–1955), known in France as Georges Enesco, was a distinguished Romanian composer, violinist, pianist, conductor, and teacher, widely regarded as Romania’s foremost musician. A child prodigy born in Liveni, he began composing at an early age and entered the Vienna Conservatory at seven, studying with Joseph Hellmesberger Jr., Robert Fuchs, and Sigismund Bachrich. He later continued his education at the Paris Conservatoire under André Gedalge, Jules Massenet, and Gabriel Fauré. Enescu performed across Europe and eventually settled in Paris after World War II. An influential pedagogue, he mentored renowned violinists including Yehudi Menuhin. He died in Paris and was buried at Père Lachaise Cemetery.
