Gaetano Sborgi was a composer active between the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, though the exact dates of his birth and death remain unknown. He was likely born in Florence, identifying himself as Florentine in the frontispieces of his sonatas. Sborgi served as chapel master and fortepiano teacher at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. After early studies with Gasparo Sborgi, he continued his training in Naples at the Conservatory of S. Onofrio, where he remained for seventeen years. His works include piano sonatas reflecting the transition from harpsichord to fortepiano. In this recording, Jacopo Sibilia performs on a copy of a 1783 Stein fortepiano, enhancing expressive nuance.
