With Echoes of Vienna, the Quatuor Hermès embarks on a nuanced exploration of a city shaped by cultural brilliance and historical upheaval. Through works by Mozart, Webern, and Korngold, the ensemble reveals contrasting musical landscapes in which lyricism intertwines with introspection and expressive tension. Each composition reflects a distinct moment in Vienna’s artistic evolution, evoking both refinement and fragility. Conceived as an album of inward listening, the recording captures the emotional pulse of an era, transforming memory and heritage into vivid, living sound through the quartet’s sensitive and finely balanced interpretation.

The Quatuor Hermès, named after the mythological messenger, defines its artistic mission as a bridge between the composer’s text and the listener’s sensibility. Founded in 2008 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, the ensemble refined its craft with the Quatuor Ravel and later with distinguished mentors including members of the Quatuor Ysaÿe, the Artemis Quartett, Eberhard Feltz, and Alfred Brendel. Internationally acclaimed, the quartet has performed at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Forbidden City Concert Hall, and appears regularly at leading festivals. Prizewinners at the Geneva Competition and Young Concert Artists Auditions, they are supported by the Fondation Banque Populaire and associated with the Fondation Singer-Polignac.
