Sony Classical presents Forgotten Melodies, the debut album of acclaimed young pianist Alexander Malofeev, introduced by the single Medtner’s Forgotten Melodies I, Op. 38/VI. Canzona serenata. Born in Moscow in 2001 and trained at the Gnessin School and Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Malofeev gained international attention after winning the 2014 International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. Now based in Berlin, he explores themes of exile and nostalgia through works by Glazunov, Glinka, Medtner, and Rachmaninoff, including the revised version of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Sonata. Celebrated for his expressive depth and technical brilliance, Malofeev is widely regarded as one of the most compelling pianists of his generation.
