Josef Mysliveček (1737–1781), born in Prague to a mill owner, studied organ with Joseph Seger and composition with František Václav Habermann before refining his craft in Venice under Giovanni Battista Pescetti. Following the success of his opera Medea, he became the first internationally renowned Bohemian opera composer and met Mozart in Bologna, who admired his talent. This two-CD set features his keyboard works—two collections of six sonatas and a Divertimento—intended for harpsichord or fortepiano with optional violin. Rooted in Classical style, the music combines structural clarity, elegance, and lyrical charm, performed on a Walter-model fortepiano copy by Marius Bartoccini with violinist Rossella Croce.
Marius Bartoccini (born 1983, Udine) is an Italian harpsichordist and pianist specializing in Baroque and Classical keyboard music. He graduated with top honors in Harpsichord and Historical Keyboards from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and in Piano from the Jacopo Tomadini Conservatory in Udine, also earning a degree in Band Instrumentation. Bartoccini has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, appearing in over 600 concerts across Europe, and collaborated with renowned conductors such as Sigiswald Kuijken and Federico Maria Sardelli. He has taught at multiple Italian conservatories and recorded extensively on historical instruments, combining performance with scholarly insight into period keyboard repertoire.
Rossella Croce graduated with highest honors in violin in 1998 from the Conservatory A. Pedrollo of Vicenza under F. Missaggia, earning scholarships and recognition in national competitions. She later specialized in early violin repertoire at the Scuola Civica in Milan and the Conservatory of Den Haag, studying with Enrico Gatti and attending courses with leading Baroque specialists. An active international performer, she appears in major concert halls worldwide and serves as concertmaster with prominent early music ensembles. Croce has participated in numerous radio broadcasts and recorded extensively for major labels, receiving critical acclaim and awards for her contributions to historically informed performance.
