The Joy of Baroque, Vol. 1 launches a recording series dedicated to Baroque music for keyboard and diverse instrumental combinations, presented from an informal and accessible perspective. The EP highlights a wide range of composers and works, many of which are either receiving their first world recording or remain relatively unknown. Emphasizing variety and discovery, the project seeks to broaden appreciation of the Baroque repertoire beyond familiar selections. With a light, engaging approach and a popular ambition, the recording invites listeners of all backgrounds to explore lesser-known composers and uncover distinctive works not often represented in mainstream catalogues.
Ángel Villagrasa is a conductor, concert performer, and harpsichordist specializing in early music performed on original instruments and guided by historical interpretation practices. He earned advanced degrees in musicology and harpsichord from the Higher School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC), studying with distinguished professors including Luca Guglielmi and Kenneth Weiss, and pursued conducting studies with Robert King. Villagrasa has performed widely across Catalonia as a harpsichordist and organist, appearing at major venues such as the Palau de la Música Catalana and L’Auditori de Barcelona. He has conducted works including Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo and Benet Andreu’s Miserere, and is founder and director of the baroque orchestra 3 Nations Ensemble.
