Leopold Auer, widely regarded as the greatest violin pedagogue of the twentieth century, trained many distinguished violinists, including Jascha Heifetz, Mischa Elman, and Nathan Milstein. Two other exceptional students, Benno Rabinof (1902–1975) and Toscha Seidel (1899–1962), though less internationally renowned, earned deep respect among string players. Rabinof, born in New York City, studied with Auer after the teacher emigrated to the United States in 1918 and made a celebrated Carnegie Hall debut performing the Elgar and Tchaikovsky concertos. Seidel, born in Odessa in 1899, debuted at Carnegie Hall in 1918 and later built a career in Hollywood as a studio violinist. Both artists performed on notable Stradivari instruments and left lasting artistic legacies.
