Released in March 2026 to celebrate the 85th birthday of Munich composer Wilfried Hiller, Vernissage – Works for Violin, Piano, North Indian Singing Bowls, Wine Glasses and Tap Shoes presents an imaginative blend of tradition and experimentation. The album features unusual instrumentation that expands the palette of contemporary chamber music while creating distinctive sonic textures. Several works are world premiere recordings, some inspired by the expressive sculptures of artist Antje Tesche-Mentzen. Known for connecting music with the visual arts, Hiller shapes these compositions as an “auditory exhibition,” rich in symbolism and emotional nuance. Violinist Franziska Strohmayr and pianist Laura Pitz interpret the pieces with virtuosity and sensitivity, highlighting their intricate harmonies and percussive colors.
Wilfried Hiller (b. 1941, Weißenhorn, Germany) is a German composer whose career spans composition, performance, and music broadcasting. After studying piano with Wilhelm Heckmann at the Augsburg Conservatory, he worked as an organist and ballet répétiteur, where he met his first wife, dance pedagogue Isabella Schwarz. In 1963 he began studies in composition with Günter Bialas and percussion with Hanns Hölzl at the University of Music Munich. Hiller later performed as a drummer in various orchestras and founded the concert series “musik unserer Zeit.” His artistic development was strongly influenced by his collaboration with Carl Orff. Hiller also worked for Bayerischer Rundfunk, taught composition in Munich, and has been active in major cultural institutions.
