Jascha Heifetz (1901–1987) was a Russian-born American violinist renowned for his exceptional technical mastery, refined tone, and meticulous musical interpretation, earning a reputation for near-perfect performance standards. A child prodigy, he began studying violin at age three, performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto at six, and entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory at nine under the celebrated teacher Leopold Auer. His early European success included performing Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic under Arthur Nikisch. After fleeing the Russian Revolution in 1917, he debuted at Carnegie Hall the same year and later became a U.S. citizen. Heifetz toured internationally, arranged works for violin, commissioned new concertos, and later taught at the University of Southern California.
