Xavier Darasse (1934–1992) was a distinguished French composer, organist, musicologist, and educator, closely associated with the Conservatoires of Toulouse, Lyon, and Paris, where he ultimately served as director. Renowned for his innovative approach to organ music, he maintained an international performing career until a 1976 accident ended his ability to play, prompting a shift toward composition and pedagogy. His influence extended through prominent students and contributions to organ research and heritage, particularly in Toulouse. A collaborator among leading contemporary composers, Darasse left a lasting legacy through his compositions, institutional leadership, and the establishment of the Toulouse les Orgues festival and competition.
