Pomponio Nenna (1556–1608) was an Italian composer trained under Stefano Felis who later worked in Naples, where he engaged in a dynamic exchange of ideas with Carlo Gesualdo, mutually influencing each other’s madrigal style through innovative text setting, dissonance, and chromaticism. Nenna’s vocal compositions are paired in this collection with organ works by Neapolitan composers Giovanni Maria Trabaci and Giovanni di Macque, transcribed for a viol consort, highlighting the rich interplay of regional musical traditions and the expressive possibilities of both vocal and instrumental Renaissance music.

Comet Musicke is an ensemble dedicated to connecting contemporary audiences with early music through historically informed performance. Their approach combines rigorous study of manuscripts, treatises, and iconography with research into instrument construction, pronunciation, and historical context. The group presents “biography-concerts” that blend music, poetry, historical narratives, and theatrical elements with humor, exploring figures such as Monteverdi, Hume, Ortiz, Binchois, Ockeghem, and Sainte-Colombe. Comet Musicke performs widely at festivals including Radio-France Montpellier-Occitanie, Laus Polyphoniae, and the Victoria International Arts Festival, and has earned recognition through competitions like Jeunes Talents du Festival Sinfonia en Périgord, while also being featured on France Musique.
