Tippet Rise Art Center is a large-scale arts destination set on a working ranch near Yellowstone, where music, architecture, and monumental sculpture are integrated into the natural landscape of Montana’s Beartooth Mountains. The site features works by artists such as Mark di Suvero and Ai Weiwei, installed outdoors so that environmental conditions become part of the viewing experience. It also functions as a recording hub, with sessions held in the Olivier Music Barn and refined in an on-site mastering studio. Within this setting, cellist Camille Thomas and pianist Julien Brocal developed Rendez-vous, combining classical repertoire with newly created reflections shaped by the surrounding landscape.

Camille Thomas is a Franco-Belgian cellist acclaimed for her expressive depth, technical refinement, and emotionally immediate performances. Born in Paris in 1988, she trained in Berlin and Weimar with leading teachers including Frans Helmerson and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. Since signing with Deutsche Grammophon, she has released several critically praised recordings and performs internationally with major orchestras across Europe, Asia, and North America. Her artistic work often emphasizes music’s capacity for emotional connection and healing. In chamber music, she collaborates closely with pianist Julien Brocal, including projects developed at Tippet Rise Art Center that integrate performance, landscape, and interdisciplinary artistic exploration.

Julien Brocal is a French pianist, composer, and improviser known for his poetic and socially engaged artistic vision. Born in 1987 in Arles, he developed a narrative-driven pianistic style influenced by mentors including Éric Berchot and Réna Shereshevskaya, and a formative collaboration with Maria João Pires, which shaped his interpretive approach. Named BBC Music Magazine’s Newcomer of the Year in 2018, he has received international acclaim for recordings of Chopin, Ravel, and Mompou. Brocal also works as a composer and arranger, contributing to film, documentary, and contemporary projects. He collaborates closely with cellist Camille Thomas and is active in interdisciplinary initiatives such as those developed at Tippet Rise Art Center.
