The album Vigilia by the Krysostomos Chamber Choir features a landmark work by choirmaster Mikko Sidoroff, believed to be the first complete Orthodox vigil composed entirely in Swedish. Originating from award-winning pieces in 2018, the project expanded into a full-scale composition for the choir’s 20th anniversary, blending earlier material with newly written sections. Drawing on texts from the 2000 Bible translation and liturgical sources, the music reflects Sidoroff’s recent style, emphasizing tonal richness and accessibility while maintaining an Orthodox spirit. Supported by major cultural institutions, the album also honors the choir’s enduring artistic influence.

Mikko Sidoroff is a Finnish choirmaster, composer, and choir pedagogue who has been based in Germany since 2016. He began composing at a young age, creating his first large-scale choral work, Panihida (2003), at 17, which led to the founding of the Krysostomos Chamber Choir—now recognized as one of Finland’s leading vocal ensembles. Over the past two decades, Sidoroff has maintained a close artistic partnership with the choir, premiering significant contributions to Orthodox church music, including Suuri paasto (2013) and Vigilia (2023), reflecting a sustained commitment to the development of contemporary liturgical repertoire.
