This album presents selected orchestral works from Op. 32 by Nikolai Myaskovsky, including Serenade, Sinfonietta, and Lyric Concertino. In contrast to his symphonies, these compositions emphasize lyricism, introspection, and a more contemplative musical character. The pieces highlight Myaskovsky’s versatility and refined expressive language beyond large-scale symphonic forms. This release is issued in commemoration of the 145th anniversary of the composer’s birth, honoring his legacy as a major figure in Russian-Soviet music and an influential symphonist of the 20th century.

Vladimir Verbitsky (born 1943) is a distinguished conductor known for his extensive international career. Born in Leningrad, he studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and refined his conducting under Yevgeny Mravinsky. He gained early recognition through collaborations with pianist Emil Gilels. Verbitsky has served as chief conductor of the Voronezh Philharmonic Orchestra since 1972 and led the Slovak Philharmonic from 1982 to 1984. Active in Australia since 1986, he has held key roles with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with leading soloists worldwide and received the title of People’s Artist of Russia from Vladimir Putin. He became an Australian citizen in 2009.
