This album is devoted to the piano music of Santiago de Masarnau, an overlooked yet important figure in nineteenth-century Spanish music whose work reflects the influence of European Romanticism. Featuring first-ever recordings of all included pieces, it offers a rare opportunity to rediscover a refined and expressive repertoire that has long remained neglected. Performed by Claudia Dafne Sevilla and Josep Colom, the recording brings renewed attention to Masarnau’s distinctive artistic voice, reintroducing his music to contemporary audiences with clarity and sensitivity.

Santiago Masarnau (1805–1882) was a Spanish pianist, composer, and religious activist whose life combined musical achievement with deep social commitment. Born in Madrid, he was a child prodigy who later studied and worked in major European cultural centers such as Paris and London, where he engaged with leading musicians of his time. His music reflects the influence of European Romanticism and played a role in shaping Spain’s piano tradition. Later in life, a profound religious awakening led him to focus on charitable work, notably founding the Spanish branch of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
