Renowned for composing the legendary march Alte Kameraden, Carl Teike produced a distinguished body of work that profoundly enriched the German concert march repertoire. Characterized by thematic invention, structural clarity, and rich tonal colors, Teike’s compositions infused the genre with remarkable diversity and charisma. This final volume in the series features notable historical pieces, including the 1918 march Neue Kameraden, which was disinterred for the 43rd anniversary of his death, alongside Sorgenbrecher, a respectful musical tribute to his admired contemporary, composer Paul Lincke.
Carl Teike (1864–1922) was a German composer known for his popular military marches, most notably Alte Kameraden (“Old Friends”), one of the most frequently performed marches worldwide. He began his musical training early and served in the band of the King Charles Grenadier Regiment in Ulm, aiming to study in Berlin. After leaving the military in 1889, he joined the Royal Police Force in Potsdam, where he composed many spirited marches. His fame grew, including international recognition, especially after being featured in Die Gartenlaube magazine in 1903. Teike’s career was cut short by illness, and he died in 1922 in Gorzów Wielkopolski.
Dating back to the 1680s, the Royal Swedish Navy Band is one of the nation's three remaining military ensembles, comprising 30 full-time professional musicians. Based in the World Heritage town of Karlskrona, the highly acclaimed group makes over 150 public appearances annually, ranging from state visits and royal audiences to changing of the guard ceremonies. Serving as a premier ambassador for Swedish military and wind music, the band bridges traditional heritage with genre development. Through high-profile collaborations with established conductors and soloists, the ensemble has maintained an internationally recognized standard of excellence, securing its place as a leading global military band.
