For their debut album, cellist Basile Ausländer and pianist Jansen Ryser—laureates of the Crescendo Young Swiss Artists—present a curated selection of cello and piano sonatas by Arthur Honegger, George Enescu, and Francis Poulenc. Though all three composers trained in Paris, they offer distinct, complementary musical perspectives on a rapidly transforming early 20th-century world. The program masterfully balances Honegger’s lucid observations and Enescu’s organic humanity with Poulenc’s expressive freedom. Through these contrasting styles and dramatic structural ruptures, the duo vividly brings to life the voice of early modernism, showcasing their exceptional artistry and technical synergy.
Born in Lausanne in 1996, Swiss cellist Basile Ausländer demonstrated exceptional early talent, winning numerous first prizes at the Swiss Youth Music Competition. He debuted as a soloist at age fourteen and subsequently performed with orchestras under conductors like Hervé Klopfenstein and Patrick Genet. Ausländer earned his Solo Master's degree with the highest honors under François Salque, receiving the Max D. Jost Prize. His diverse career includes international festival appearances, a scholarship from the Fondation Casino Barrière Montreux, and performances with renowned ensembles like the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and Theodor Currentzis’s MusicAeterna, alongside advanced studies at Helsinki's Sibelius Academy.
Born in Lausanne in 1994, Swiss pianist Jansen Ryser began playing at age five, later studying at prestigious institutions including the Haute École de Musique de Genève, The Juilliard School, and the Musik Akademie Basel. Guided by renowned mentors like Claudio Martínez-Mehner, he earned the 2017 Filipinetti Award for Best Soloist Master and received vital support from the Leenaards and Dénéréaz Foundations. Ryser maintains a vibrant career as a soloist and chamber musician, debuting at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival at age fifteen and performing at major European venues, recently appearing with the Sinfonieorchester Basel in Prokofiev’s First Piano Concerto.
