Leveraging his unique background as a composer, Obermeier applies a keen sensitivity to structural design, tonal palette, and expressive nuance, providing a remarkably refined perspective on this traditional repertoire. The album centers around Mendelssohn's celebrated Songs Without Words, complemented by the expansive Variations sérieuses and Rondo capriccioso. Born in 1998, German pianist, composer, and saxophonist Johannes Obermeier is a versatile artist who balances musical excellence with academic achievement, holding a Master of Science in business administration alongside advanced degrees in piano and composition from the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. A highly decorated competitor, he won third prize at the 2022 ARD International Music Competition and first prize at the International Schimmel Piano Competition. Obermeier maintains an active international career as a soloist and chamber musician, frequently collaborating with renowned artists and major orchestras, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, while additionally serving as a musical coach in Munich.
