Founded by polymath François-Bernard Mâche (born 1935) and Pierre Schaeffer, the Groupe de recherches musicales pioneered early electroacoustic music. Throughout his distinguished career, Mâche successfully integrated electronic dimensions into traditional and classical instrumentation, creating innovative sonic dialogues. His compositions frequently synthesize these electronic textures with profound mythological and naturalist inspirations, as demonstrated in seminal works like Aulodie and Aliunde. Ultimately, Mâche’s pioneering work bridges the gap between organic and synthetic sounds, solidifying his legacy as a crucial figure in the evolution of contemporary avant-garde music.

Formed around soprano Françoise Kubler and clarinettist Armand Angster, the French Ensemble Accroche Note is dedicated to promoting contemporary music. The group's flexible instrumentation ranges from soloists to large chamber ensembles, allowing them to perform classical repertoire, modern vocal and instrumental literature, and jazz-based improvisations. Actively collaborating with contemporary composers, Accroche Note frequently commissions and premieres works by prominent figures such as Pascal Dusapin and Bruno Mantovani. Based at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg where both founders teach, the ensemble’s acclaimed soloists regularly tour and record internationally, bridging the gap between historical traditions and cutting-edge musical genres.
