Danish composer and conductor Ole Schmidt (1928–2010) seamlessly blended classical forms with jazz’s rhythmic and harmonic freedom. A former jazz musician trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music under Vagn Holmboe, Schmidt excelled across diverse genres, including film, ballet, and his pioneering recordings of Carl Nielsen's symphonies with the London Symphony Orchestra. Celebrating his uncompromising artistry, a new research project led by professors Jesper Sivebæk and Bjarke Mogensen explores Schmidt’s lesser-known works for guitar and accordion. They are joined by violinist Christina Åstrand and the Royal Danish Academy of Music’s elite chamber orchestra, conducted by Max Artved.
Max Artved is an eminent Danish oboist, chamber musician, and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music (DKDM). Following his critically acclaimed soloist debut in 1990, Artved established himself as a cornerstone of the Nordic woodwind tradition, mentoring students who now hold principal orchestral seats across Scandinavia. His extensive leadership includes serving as artistic director of the Royal Danish Library’s elite Diamant Ensemblet from 2004 to 2018 and founding the DRSO Wind Quintet. Bridging solo artistry and collaborative performance, Artved currently channels his precise musical insight into teaching oboe, chamber music, and ensemble direction to the next generation of musicians.
