Praised by The New York Times as "a force to be reckoned with," violinist Miclen LaiPang makes his solo recording debut on Delos with Deep River. Partnered by pianist Nigel Yandell, LaiPang performs on an exquisite Antonio Stradivari violin, graciously loaned by the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. The highly personal program mirrors his life journey across countries and cultures. Featuring foundational pieces like Deep River, the repertoire traces his roots in the United States, his formative musical years in Germany and Austria through works by Schumann and Strauss, and his current home in France with Ravel’s Violin Sonata No. 2.
An internationally acclaimed violinist praised by The New York Times as "a force to be reckoned with," California-born Miclen LaiPang has performed in over 60 countries at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and the Vienna Musikverein. Based in Paris, he seamlessly balances roles as a soloist, educator, and chamber musician, notably as the violinist of Trio Zadig. His chart-topping Naxos recording of Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata preceded his June 2026 solo debut album, Deep River, on the Delos label. Deeply committed to philanthropy and education, LaiPang performs on rare historic instruments, including a 1707 Antonio Stradivari violin.
Educated at the universities of York and Oxford, Nigel Yandell is an accomplished pianist, musicologist, and educator. His doctoral research at Wadham College, Oxford, explored 18th-century keyboard music in Russia under Catherine the Great, expanding later into music publishing and historical performance practice, including contributions to the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. Elected a Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, in 2001, Yandell maintains an active career as a solo performer, chamber musician, and lecturer across Europe. He also holds key leadership roles with several prominent arts organizations, including Pro Corda and the Cambridge University Musical Society.
