Directed by Ása Helga Hjörleifsdóttir, A Letter from Helga (Svar við bréfi Helgu) is a 2022 Icelandic drama film based on Bergsveinn Birgisson’s acclaimed short novel. Set against the backdrop of a remote Icelandic fjord in the 1940s, the narrative explores a passionate, forbidden affair between Bjarni, a young farmer, and his neighbor, Helga. The film achieved critical acclaim for its compelling performances, culminating in major recognition at the 2023 Edda Awards, where co-stars Anita Briem and Björn Thors secured the prestigious Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor of the Year awards, respectively.

Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir (born 1982) is an acclaimed Icelandic musician and performing artist whose career spans classical training, experimental composition, and multidisciplinary collaborations. After initial success with the band múm, she launched a diverse solo career, releasing award-winning albums like I Must Be The Devil. Valtýsdóttir is a frequent collaborator of visual artist Ragnar Kjartansson, contributing to renowned installations such as The Visitors. Her evocative, piano-centric soundtrack for the 2022 film A Letter from Helga earned her Best Filmscore at the 2023 Montreal Film Festival. She continues to perform internationally while teaching music and performance art in Iceland.
