Argentine mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack makes her PENTATONE debut with Sur, a deeply personal album exploring memory, identity, and the enduring concept of home. Inspired by a pivotal childhood encounter with the music of Astor Piazzolla, Mack blends classical precision with expressive freedom to capture the color, grit, and emotional immediacy of reimagined tango. Partnering with collaborator JP—whose original arrangements and composition, Dulce sueños, complement Piazzolla's legacy—Mack reconnects with the spirit of Buenos Aires. Together, they construct a nostalgic yet vibrant soundscape that transforms intimate vignettes into a universal exploration of artistic heritage and reinvention.
Daniela Mack (b. 1982) is an internationally acclaimed opera singer recognized for her charismatic stage presence, technical prowess, and expansive repertoire. An alumna of San Francisco Opera’s Adler Fellowship and a finalist in the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, Mack regularly performs across major global venues, including The Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, and Carnegie Hall. Celebrated for iconic roles in Handel, Rossini, and Mozart operas, as well as landmark modern world premieres—such as creating Frida Kahlo in El último sueño de Frida y Diego—she continues to captivate audiences on both operatic and orchestral concert stages worldwide.
