Pianist Mariann Marczi introduces an album inspired by the profound, evocative connection between music, poetry, and fragrance, using musical metaphors to explore personal emotion, memory, and reflection. Featuring piano transcriptions of operas, operettas, ballets, and orchestral pieces designed for intimate salon settings, the album embraces a nostalgic atmosphere that bridges historical eras. A central catalyst for this project was Marczi's accidental discovery of a yellowed score by Hungarian-French composer Joseph Kosma in a Parisian antiquarian bookstore. Captivated by Kosma’s unique harmonic style, she created her own transcription of his operetta, planting the original seed that ultimately shaped the album's entire program.

Mariann Marczi is a distinguished Hungarian concert pianist, soloist, and chamber musician who serves as a professor at Budapest's Franz Liszt Academy of Music. An active international performer giving up to 40 concerts annually across Europe and the U.S., she holds a doctorate focusing on György Ligeti's piano études and earned her Habilitation in 2022. Throughout her acclaimed career, Marczi has earned numerous awards, including top prizes at the 2025 American Classical Music Awards and International Moscow Music Competition. Her recorded repertoire for Odradek Records includes the BBC Music Magazine Award-nominated album SPLINTERS (2013) and PAST VISIONS (2019).
