Following the acclaim of their Ninth Symphony release, conductor Philipp von Steinaecker and the Mahler Academy Orchestra present Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, recorded on period instruments using Breitkopf & Härtel’s new Urtext edition. Founded by Claudio Abbado, the orchestra unites emerging talents and seasoned musicians from top European ensembles. Utilizing instruments replicating those of the Vienna Philharmonic around 1900, this co-production of the Busoni-Mahler and Euregio Kulturzentrum Foundations—held under the patronage of Mahler's granddaughter, Marina Mahler—offers a landmark, historically informed perspective that illuminates the composer's original soundscapes, including the iconic Adagietto composed following Mahler's 1901 meeting with Alma.

Conductor Philipp von Steinaecker is a versatile interpreter recognized for his historically informed approaches spanning Baroque, German Romantic, and Second Viennese School repertoires. Formed under the mentorship of Claudio Abbado and Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Steinaecker collaborates with premier ensembles globally, including the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, alongside conducting opera across Europe. As Artistic Director of the Gustav Mahler Academy’s originalklang project, he leads acclaimed European tours exploring Mahler's authentic soundscapes with instruments from the composer's era. In September 2026, he expands his educational footprint with the launch of his podcast einfach kompliziert, discussing complex artistic masterpieces.
