Violinist Mark Fewer and Leaf Music present J.S. Bach: Violin Sonatas and Partitas, BWV 1001–1006 (LM311), a groundbreaking recording featuring six distinct instruments crafted by premier Canadian luthiers: David Prentice, John Newton, Mark Schnurr, Itzel Avila, Isabelle Wilbaux, and Sibylle Ruppert. Rooted in Fewer’s work with the SweetWater Music Festival—a catalyst for Canada's thriving "Cremona North" lutherie community—the project pairs Bach's masterworks with individual violins to illuminate both the instruments’ distinct tonalities and new interpretive nuances. This landmark release celebrates the profound synergy between timeless repertoire and the world-class artistry of contemporary Canadian violin makers.

Recently inducted into CBC’s In Concert Hall of Fame, violinist Mark Fewer boasts a distinguished three-decade career defined by artistic versatility and over 200 world premieres. His award-winning discography includes JUNO, Grammy, Prix Opus, and ECMA honors. Formerly Concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony and faculty member at Stanford and McGill, Fewer currently serves as Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and Senior Fellow at Massey College. He performs on Stradivari and Amati instruments as first violinist of the Smithsonian’s Axelrod String Quartet and leads Stratford Summer Music in his eighth season as Artistic Director.
